Data Warehouse

Functionality
The data warehouse provides a database of raw data extracted from the Vista system. It includes a wide variety of information around titles, customers and sales information in a wide range of time frames. The historical sales information is held for four years plus the current year.

The Data Warehouse application is provided by Business Objects 5i deployment:
  • The Info View portal is based on a web server, http://dwh.randomhouse.co.uk.
  • Business Objects 5.1.9 is the query, reporting and analysis tool.
  • Business Objects software is installed from the web server.
  • The data is held on an SQL data server.
  • Access to web and data servers uses standard http protocol.
  • Minimum PC requirements: Windows 2000, Pentium III, 128M RAM, Internet Explorer 5.5.
Benefits
  • Provides business intelligence by focusing on the business solution and not the technical solution.
  • Reduces reliance on IT and empowers client publishers to self serve access to their information.
  • Provide an easy and intuitive way to access, query, report, analyse and share information that is held in the core operational Vista systems.
  • Provides agility in performing detailed analysis of data based on business requirements.
  • Utilises and manipulates statistical information, not only from Vista, but combines information from other data sources, internal and external.
  • Delivers relevant reports which can be scheduled as required.
  • Data can be exported to personal files and databases e.g. Excel.
Output/Interfaces
The data is built on the output from Vista from a daily over-night feed.
